LAFARGE WAPCO RESTATES COMMITMENT TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc, a leading manufacturer and marketing of cement has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development in its host communities and beyond. This commitment was demonstrated at the occasion of upgrading the company's Community IT Learning Centres (CLC) into the Microsoft IT Academy in Ewekoro Ogun state.
 
Nine years ago, Lafarge WAPCO established the Community Learning Centre with the aim of developing the community's youth, when we saw they need for technical infrastructure to boost intellectual development of young people in and around the environment of our operations. We are pleased that this initiative has helped 3,751 students gain computer skills that will be a valuable asset for their future.
 
The Community Learning Centre which hitherto was computer-learning centre has now become one of the Microsoft certification examination centres where student can write Microsoft examinations without any stress.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc, Mr. Samy Abdelkader  explained that "the Microsoft accreditation we have reached today is an added advantage as our Community Learning Centres has received international recognition as a centre of excellence in gaining basic IT knowledge."
 
In his own remark, The Managing Director of 1st Intellit Solutions Limited, the managing consultant of Lafarge WAPCO community Learning Centre, Mr. Niyi Omotoyinbo emphasizes the importance of IT in the rapid changing global economy. "1st Intellit is honoured to have been the preferred partner to Lafarge WAPCO in driving this exemplary social responsibility over the years. This initiatives has indeed given us a golden opportunity to shape lives through IT training'.
