Lafarge Cement Wapco Provides Chest Diagnostic Facilities To Host Community
As part of its commitment to the Health and Safety of its stakeholders, Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc, a leading manufacturer of cement, today commissioned new sets of ultramodern chest diagnostic equipments at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State. The Chest Diagnostic Centre was fully equipped, installed and furnished by the company through the Sagamu Community Development Committee, the platform through which it executes its community development projects.
The chest diagnostic equipments include Vitalograph, Fibreoptic bronchoscope, Blood-gas analyzer, Pulse oximeters, Binocular Microscope, Peak Flow Meter and Nebuliser.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Head of Communications, Temitope Oguntokun, representing the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc, George Lourandos, reiterated the company’s determination to assist its stakeholders in improving their health.
According to Lourandos, “We are quite delighted to be part of this achievement. We are always concerned about the health of our stakeholders and we try to assist in the areas of preventive and curative health programmes in line with our established health policy.”
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, (OOUTH) Professor A.M.O Shonubi noted that the Chest Clinic would be of great importance to the hospital in diagnosing all chest related health problems of the people. We are happy that our dream of having a world standard chest diagnostic centre has been fulfilled through the contribution of Lafarge Cement WAPCO and the family of Late Dr Theophilous Ogunyemi who donated this building to us earlier in the year.
The CMD described Lafarge WAPCO’s provision of the facilities as “a massive contribution to humanity”, saying ”It is a significant contribution to the facilities of this hospital which will not only be beneficial to the immediate environment but all Nigerians who access the hospital.”
Speaking in the same vein, the Chairman of Sagamu Community Development Committee (Lafarge WAPCO Chapter), Asiwaju S.K Onafowokan appreciated the company for its continuous assistance to the community and encouraged all and sundry with chest-related conditions to patronise the centre. ‘We believe this facility being commissioned today will assist in the reduction of untimely death as result of chest related diseases in Ogun state and the nation at large”.
