Lafarge Africa Launches its first sustainability report

 


Lafarge Africa Plc has launched its first Sustainability Report. The report is benchmarked against the latest standard of the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) G4, making the organisation one of a few companies in Nigeria to achieve this best practice.

The report was launched during the company’s 3rd edition of its National Literacy Competition which was attended by its different stakeholders at the MUSON Centre in Lagos.

Commenting on the launch, Lafarge Africa’s Country CEO, Mr. Michel Puchercos said the company is driven by its ambitions to set new standards and help transform the way its industry works in Nigeria. He said the report helps the organization to review, prioritize and take key decisions for improving its sustainability efforts.

According to Puchercos, “Sustainability sets us apart in how we want to do business in Nigeria. It is an integral part of our operations, being one of the six pillars of our company strategy. Our vision aligns with the LafargeHolcim Group’s Sustainability Strategy, The 2030 Plan, which sets us on the path of Building for Tomorrow”. According to Puchercos, “We envision that the construction sector of tomorrow will be innovative, climate-neutral and circular in its use of resources. It will be respectful of water and nature, and inclusive – thus enhancing the quality of life. We commit ourselves to play our part in this evolution that helps us to have the greatest impact on our stakeholders”.

Reiterating the company’s commitment to making a positive difference, Puchercos said “ Our strong roots in the Nigerian market with over 55 years of operation, gives us a very broad vision of the country and the basis to constantly anticipate needs. We will continue to research solutions in our commitments to a sustainable country and the world at large”.

Puchercos concluded that the company’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of its employees…”with an overarching emphasis on safety, proactive engagement with our communities and partners, the effective use of resources, respect for the environment and a culture of corporate governance, will ultimately help us achieve our goal and improve our sustainability performance significantly in coming years”.

Commenting on the report, Chairman, Lafarge Africa Plc, Mr. Mobolaji Balogun said, the Sustainability Report is a part of the company’s methodology of increasing its  level of transparency in sharing its sustainable development performance with its stakeholders.

According to him. “this is a voluntary disclosure, beyond listing requirements. It reiterates our commitment to promoting best practices and engaging with our internal and external stakeholders”.

 
Balogun reassured its stakeholders of its commitment to driving True Value within the business. “While we are focused on a performance and profit driven organisation, we are equally focused on ensuring that Lafarge Africa adds value to the society along the triple bottom line of People, Planet and Profit”,  Balogun concluded.
